Counseling Groups are usually short-term
(6-8 weeks in duration) and are built around a specific issue with which
participants are struggling. Parents, teachers, and students themselves
can refer students for consideration. Groups will start when at least 3-4
students with a common need are identified. Groups will meet once a week
during staggered class periods during the school day.
Participants will be expected to treat each other respectfully, maintain confidentiality, and be committed to working on goal areas. Potential group members will be interviewed to ensure their appropriateness for a group setting. In some cases, a student may not be ready for a group experience and will be offered individual counseling support as an alternative. Some possible topics for groups may include the following:
