Canada Trip
5/28 - 6/1/09

Dear Parents:

Happy 2009 and congratulations! Your child is one of the 160 students eligible to visit Montreal and Quebec next May 28th through June 1st !
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that your next installment is due on or before Friday, February 20,2009. The check made out to "UM School District" should be for an additional $200.00. Your total amount so far given toward the trip should be $510.00. The remaining balance of $200.00 will be due on or before Thursday, March 14th 2009. You are welcome to pay the remaining balance in full if you wish to do so. Please secure your check to the attached form when sending your installment and clearly identify it with your child’s name.

*Fundraising… Our 1st fundraiser was a great success! We sold 3800 Wawa hoagie coupons. Our next fundraiser is our Mardi Gras* dance scheduled for Friday, February 6th in our school gymnasium. Our third fundraiser will be our annual Kids’ Flea Market scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, 2009.So, start cleaning out your attics, garages and basements … information about renting tables will soon follow!! You will be contacted for assistance and for another chance to earn a “check” for your child. Our final fundraiser is a “Festa Italiana” an Italian family dinner, *professionally catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill* and with delicious home-made desserts. The date for this feast is Friday, April 17th from 6:30pm to 9pm. Interesting and fun baskets will also be available during the dinner. More details will follow as we get closer to April. Again a parent from the fundraising committee will be in touch to ask for baked goodies and other help soon. Remember, your child will earn a check for helping and/or any food that s/he bring in. *Attention business owners… For our “Festa Italiana”* dinner we would like to offer baskets filled with services, gift certificates, and etcetera to aid in our fundraising pursuit. If you are in a position to help us in filling these baskets, or are able to give us a lead on people that will be able to help, please contact John Grande, via e-mail: jg0909@umtsd.org or 215-674-4185, ext 3710.

*Passport / Medical Info …* Please obtain your child's “ORIGINAL” birth certificate or his/her passport soon. We will be asking for it in May. It takes time to obtain either of these items so... please don't wait till spring. Also, remember that if there are any changes in your child’s medical insurance or medications let Mr. Grande know as soon as possible.		*Chaperons …* Several of you have expressed a desire to come along as chaperons for the trip. Each chaperon will be responsible for about 10 students. We will select chaperons in the early spring and will be in touch with you again at that time. Adults traveling with us must have a valid passport.

*Check us out on the Web*… We have created a Canada web page. Check it out for important details and fun pictures of us and our fundraising efforts. Go to www.umtsd.org then click on the Middle School; then on the left click on the 8th grade Canada trip…and there we’ll be!!! I will post upcoming events, activities, deadlines, and pictures.
